Probably the best limpet in the galaxy
I can’t even keep track of how many times this particular controller module has saved my ship (and me) when landing too fast on high-G planets (3+).
Shields go down, hull insta tanks to 40% or less. then one or two repair limpets, and you’re good to go again. This module is as important as the AFMU if you’re far away on your own among the stars Really enjoy the idea of being able to mine/collect resources and then resupply limpets. In theory you can stay from any bubble for years. As long as your ship doesn’t explode and you’ve got a functional spare SRV, you’re fully capable of staying good out there
A D-rated size 1 repair limpet controller, totally worth the extra weight, now just let us do lightweight engineering on it like the other ones.
I would like to be able to mine resources on-foot though, as a last resort if the last SRV dies
We dont even need a special suit for it, just make a handheld mining laser or maybe something closer to the abrasion blaster to crack open the rocks, for that matter I should be able to use my executioner to blast them, just need to be able to pickup the materials on foot,
On a related note wouldn’t it be cool to have an anti gravity gun of some kind to pick up and move the canisters and pods we find on planets to are ship?
I’m getting off topic. I’ll shut up now o7

While you can’t pick them up on foot, you can use your personal weapons on them.
I’ve shot a couple with my Tormentor and they’ve broken loose.
That actually makes deposits within a no-fire zone of a «horizons» settlement obtainable now, as on-foot weapons don’t count.
Looking forward to the new multi-role limpet controllers in a future update (U9 maybe?)
Hoping they include repair and collector in one, for a start.

Pretty sweet I must try this ASAP. Maybe you can pick ’em up with a hovering ship or a collector limpet.
Edit: Yes, I was able to blast it loose from a rock on foot and then grab it with my ship. This means we can even collect resources (as a last resort, if we run out of something) without any SRV by simply blasting at rocks and grab the fragments with our ship. So we don’t have to head home if the last SRV blows up, we can carry on with our journey. That’s nice

You don’t have to land too fast on high-G planets. Just use an appropriate landing technique when you see one of those planets, and your hull will be eternally thankful. 🙂
The technique is to land horizontally, briefly disengaging your flight assist to let the gravity to pull you in. Then turning the flight assist on again, to let your vertical thrusters to compensate the fall.
Never point your nose or your tail down to the planet. Never thrust downwards.
Your vertical thrusters have a «magic» of always being a bit stronger than the current gravity is. Not your main thrusters (not even with boosting).
The same is with ascending from a planet. Use your vertical thrusters up until you are high enough, and only then point your nose up. If the gravity is high, your ship will be falling back with your nose up (even with boosts). Make sure that you have enough of height to go into supercruise, before you fall down to the surface.

Drone Types
Collector
Collector limpets collect items in space and deliver them to their ships cargohold. Useful for pirates needing to gather cargo in a hurry and for miners with lots of ore to scoop.
Collection drones have two modes. The primary mode scoops the object or canister you’re currently targeting. The secondary mode has an area effect, scooping everything it can before it expires. In the latter mode, Collector drones move more slowly, but can gather multiple items before expiring; otherwise, they self-destruct when the designated item has been retrieved.
Decontamination
Decontamination limpets attach to a target ship’s hull and remove any caustic residue left by Thargoid Interceptor missiles. At the same time, the drones also repair a portion of the target ship’s hull, but are less effective at repair work than Repair drones.
Fuel Transfer
Fuel Transfer limpets let a player send one ton of fuel to another ship, while in flight. Ships can carry additional fuel for their escort fighters and extend the effective range of their Wings.
Hatch Breaker
Hatch Breaker limpets can be fired upon the targeted ship and upon contact break its Cargo hatch, thereby ejecting the target’s cargo over time. It can be countered with Point Defence Turrets.
Prospector
Prospector limpets scan asteroids, scouting for mineable materials they contain. They are very useful when seeking rare ores.
Recon
Recon limpets hack into data points, such as those found on Bulk Cruiser Megaships.
Repair
Repair limpets repair the targeted ship’s hull. If launched without an assigned target, they will repair the hull of their parent ship instead. Depending on what type of Repair Limpet Controller is installed, multiple limpets can be active on a ship at a time; exceeding the module’s limit of active limpets will cause the oldest active limpet on the target to self-destruct.
Research
Research drones attach to targeted Thargoid Interceptors, Thargoid Scouts, or alien organic lifeforms found at Notable Stellar Phenomena, and retrieve a research sample, such as a Thargoid Cyclops Tissue Sample, which is then stored aboard the ship as a Commodity.
Limpet Controller/Decontamination
Controls a limpet that removes caustic chemicals affecting a ship’s hull, as well as applying a small amount of hull repair.
The Decontamination Limpet Controller is a Limpet Controller used to remove the caustic, damaging substance left by Thargoid Interceptor missiles. Decontamination Limpets can also partially restore a ship’s hull, but are less effective than Repair Limpets.
Contents
Usage
Decontamination Limpets are a highly situational module, as caustic damage is mainly only a threat during anti-Thargoid combat, and can alternatively be removed by overheating the ship, though this latter process has obvious risks. Pilots tackling Thargoids in Wings will find it useful to have a support ship with Decontamination Limpets on hand, however, and the module’s added hull repair effect means it is not strictly necessary to carry Repair Limpets at the same time.

Specifications
Limpets controlled by this module are a variant of the standard Hull Repair Limpet. Capable of not only cleaning off hull-corrosive (caustic) chemicals from a ship’s outer hull, but also adminstering a limited amount of repair in the process. This task takes an amount of time, during which both vessels must remain within a set distance of each other. Any external damage to the affected vessel will cancel the process immediately.
