keyboard issues with symptoms:
keyboard light switch work, panel brightness fn key and others work, bios entering work, any other functions not work.
Things that dont resolved my problem:
device manager keyboard reinstall
battery kill and start
any suggestions from any articles or videos
but than something strange solved the problem:
i tried to install the latest firmware update, it says cant find device, ok i restart pc in safe mode with external keyboard, laptop key still not work, i tried to install firmware it says cant find device again, laptop keyboard still not work, i was very tired of this i was doing this **bleep** about 4 hours constantly, but i not given up, i restart laptop to go check if i missed any solving method, and on logon screen i was able to use the laptop keyboard, i pull out external key and still work.
Still dont understand, it might be do some changing in very deep section of os, or any **bleep**.
Hope if someone how cant solve the problem with the other suggestions like me, it will help in same way.

it was a malware that caused my drivers to fail and get messed up anyway i got a usb keyboard to flush my system how cna i flash my drivers

I have observed a few things here.
Once the keyboard is dead, no matter how many reboots you do, the keyboard doesn’t come back to life. Even when I boot into BIOS the keyboard stays dead.
The only thing that works for me is a forced shutdown where you hear a click sound indicating the hard disk powering down. Once the system has completely powered off, You press the power button and the keyboard comes back to life. Boot into BIOS and the keys work. You reboot back to system from BIOS and the keyboard is again dead.
Hold down the power button to completely power down the system and then turn it on. The keyboard works fine and you are able to log into Windows. do a reboot again and the keyboard is dead. Settings in Lenovo Vantage like battery conservation mode also do not stick. You have to toggle the battery conservation mode again.
One thing to note here is that when the keyboard works fine, the device manager entry shows up like the image below. When the keyboard is dead, ‘HID Keyboard Device’ entry is missing from Keyboards section and an entry named ‘Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)’ is displayed in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section.

I have tried doing a keyboard firmware flash manually when the keyboard is working. The update takes abnormally long time and it fails in the end. Initially it finds the keyboard and starts the flashing process. During flashing it displays a Compare Failed message in the right section of the flash tool and in the left section hundreds of entries like failed HidD_SetFeature 31 and failed HidD_GetFeature 31 keep scrolling. After about and hour or more it displays a failure message.
Everything was working fine until I blindly went ahead with system updates and then did a system reboot. I don’t know if it was a Windows update or a Lenovo update that ruined my perfectly running machine.
I am being driven to the point of insanity now. I still don’t know if it is a hardware issue, a software issue or a hardware issue due to messed up firmware.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Also note, that not all drivers needs to be updated. If it works, it works. There should be no need to try and fix something that is not broken.
Please try the following:
Step 1. Disable Automatic Hardware drivers update
— Right click the Windows Icon, select the «Search» Function.
— Type «Control Panel» and select «Small icons» or «Large Icons» in the «View By» top right.
— Click the «System Icon»
— Click «Device Installation Settings» and Select «No»
**This will prevent Windows from interfering with your hardware drivers in future updates, but keep crucial security updates rolling.
Step 3. Uninstall Keyboard Device + Drivers.
— If prompted to uninstall drivers associated with the device, tick the box and continue.
— Perform a restart of the computer to have Windows install the most generic drivers for this device.
If the Keyboard is now working, you can leave it as is. No need to install any new drivers or firmware unless there is a problem to begin with.

Just let the battery run out. And the laptop will turn itself off, then turn it back on and the keyboard will work (as long as it happened to me).

I just updated my laptop keyboard firmware 00000044. My laptop is 3 months old and the fool proof setting is disabled in bios but still I have to use Fn button to control the brightness and volume. Any thoughts about how to fix that. I tried reversing it to enable still no luck. Does this firmware have a change log? Whats fixed or new with this update??

To keep the power button pressed (reset) worked to reestablish the keyboard in windows but it looks that is not working any more.

Because they do not care. They never will. Either they are too arrogant to own up to the blunder they made with the keyboard firmware, or they are totally incompetent to find a fix for the issue. Whatever they are, I can only see this company going down the drain.
