One of the oldest errors on Roblox is one that prevents you from entering a world created by other users and claims it is because of permission levels. This issue is completely random to face and might even occur on games which you usually play without any issues.

It’s been faced by many Roblox players for well over a decade now, and there’s nothing surprising about it if you’ve also encountered it once or twice. Here are a few things that you can try out if you wish to get rid of this error which prevents you from entering games because of permission levels.

If this issue specifically occurs with a new place that you’re trying to enter, the age you’ve submitted in your Roblox account could probably be the reason why you can’t play or enter a lot of places. A lot of the games that you’ll find on Roblox might be meant for players that are a bit older and more mature. Because of this, said games are blocked off for children under the age of 13. If your Roblox account states that your current age is only 13, then the permission settings might block you and this issue will occur.

If you’re over 13 and you should be able to play these games without any issue, try e-mailing Roblox. Ask their support to increase your age if it wrongly stated so that you can start playing all the great games that you’re restricted from. However, it is strongly recommended that you don’t do so if you aren’t actually over the age of 13 and are rightfully restricted from entering whatever place you’re trying to enter.

If the issue isn’t with the age-related permission settings, it is most likely that it is with the game’s other permission levels. There are some games that are not available for public use, and it could be that you might be trying to enter one of these games.

This can even be the case for a very popular Roblox place which you visit regularly, as there are some times where the creators behind the game might make it private to fix some issues and perform other tests. There could also be another issue which might cause these popular games to go private. All in all, you can’t do much about it if this is the case, except wait for the creators to make their place public again.

It could be that you’re trying to enter a place that has been banned or blocked or simply put into review by Roblox. These games are the ones that go against the Roblox guidelines, which is why Roblox prevents players from playing them. If the place you’re trying to enter is newly created and other players can’t enter either, this is almost definitely the case. You can’t really do anything about the issue in this case, as the place likely won’t be making a return again.

Ways to share

There are several different ways you can share the pages and databases you build in Notion with folks inside and outside your workspace. Below is an overview of all the ways to share.

Share menu

First, here’s a quick tour of the Share menu, which can be clicked at the top right of your page. On mobile, click the share icon next to the ••• at the top right for the same options.

Each row in this menu represents a different person or group of people you can share the page with. In the menu above for this Engineering Wiki page:

Share to web is turned off, so only you and your teammates can see this page.

Everyone at Acme Inc. means everyone in the workspace can comment on the page.

ada@lovelace.com is an example guest on the page who was invited from outside the workspace — she can only view the page.

Fig is an example of a team member with full access to the page. They’ll be able to make edits and invite additional people.

The dropdown menus on the right let you set their level of access.

Copy link copies the page’s unique URL to your clipboard so you can share it with whoever you want. Still, only people with access to the page can see it.

Invite lets you add people both inside or outside your workspace to a page using their email address.

External folks will be added as guests.

You can assign both guests and other workspace members a level of access using the dropdown menus:

Share with your whole workspace

You can collaborate with other people in Notion by adding them as members to your workspace (Team Plan & Enterprise Plan only). These can be your teammates at work, friends, or anyone you want to work with on pages. There are a few ways to share Notion pages with other members so you can work together:

Any page in the Workspace section of your sidebar is shared with all workspace members.

You can drag a page from Shared or Private in your sidebar into Workspace to share it.

In the Share menu, you can turn on access for Everyone at [workspace] at a certain level selected from the dropdown:

Share with individual teammates

Sometimes you’ll want to share a page with only select other members of your workspace — like a meeting doc you share with your manager, or notes for a small project team.

Click Share at the top right of a private page you want to share with these members.

Click the Add people button and add the members you want by typing in their email addresses. You can set their access levels from the dropdown in the invite window.

Pages that you share with only a few members but not your entire workspace will show up in the Shared section of your sidebar. Drag them into Workspace to share them team-wide.

If you have more than 7 pages in the Shared section, you can pick which ones you’d like to keep pinned to the sidebar.

Tip: In the Shared section pop-up, you can also search for shared pages, sort by Relevance or Last edited, and easily copy page links!

Share with groups

To make it easier to share with commonly-used groups (i.e. your company’s engineering team or community team), you can create your own member groups and assign them permission to access pages as units.

Here are quick instructions for group sharing:

Go to Settings & Members and you’ll see a list of all your members and guests. Click the Groups heading at the top of that list.

To share a page with a particular group, go to Share at the top right of that page, then click the Add people button. You’ll see your groups listed in the invite pop-up that appears:

Share outside your team

You can invite people from outside your workspace to join pages as guests. Let’s say you want to share a Notion page with an external contractor you’ve hired. Or perhaps you’re the contractor and you want to share a page with a client. This is an ideal solution.

Quick instructions for sharing with guests:

Click Share at the top right of the Notion page you want to share externally.

Click the Add people button and add the people you want using their email addresses. Set their access levels using the dropdown menu.

Whoever you invite this way will receive an email with a link to the page you’ve invited them to view or edit.

If you want to see all the guests in your workspace and the pages they have permission to access, go to the Members section of Settings & Members and go to the Guests tab.

In this same window, you can remove guests from your workspace, change their access levels, or convert them to full members.

Share to the web

Quick instructions for making pages public:

Click on Share at the top right of the page you want to publish to the web.

To publish your page to the web, change the access level to one of these:

Can view means your page is published to the web, but can’t be edited or commented on by other Notion users.

Can comment means that anyone with a Notion account can leave comments on your page after you share the link with them.

Can edit means anyone with a Notion account can make edits on your page after you share the link with them.

You’ll see a couple other options too once you turn on Share to the web access:

Allow duplicate as template : Switch this off so that other Notion users can’t duplicate your page to their own workspace to edit. This is on by default.

Search engine indexing (paid plans only): Switch this on so that your page can appear in search results on Google and other search engines. This is off by default.

Click Copy link to copy the page’s unique URL to share.

Only people with the page’s unique URL will be able to see it.

Permission levels

This is where Notion’s sharing options get nuanced and granular. For every person or group you share with, you can assign a different level of access. For example, this is helpful if:

You want only a few people to edit a page, while everyone else reads it.

You want some pages to only be visible to a specific team.

You only want to collect comments on a piece of writing.

Note: When you invite someone to a page, they can automatically access all of its sub-pages by default. That being said, you can restrict or expand sub-page permissions!

How to edit permissions

Full access : People with full access to a page can edit any of the content it contains and share the page with anyone they want using all the mechanisms in this guide.

Can edit : Select this level of access for people or groups who should be able to edit the content on the page, but not share the page.

Can comment : Select this level of access for people and groups who should only have the ability to comment on a page’s content, not actually edit it. They also can’t share the page with others.

Can view : People with this level of access can read the content on the page, but not comment on it or edit it. They also can’t share the page with others.

How to restrict, expand & restore sub-page permissions

By default, any page that’s nested inside a page (a child page) will inherit the same permissions as the page it’s nested in (the parent page). But you can assign higher or lower levels of permission for sub-pages to meet your needs.

For example: In the screenshot below, everyone at Acme Inc. has Can comment access to the Engineering Wiki and all its sub-pages. Fig is the only team member who’s able to make edits, or share with more people.

Note that the permission level of «Engineering Guidelines» is determined by the «Engineering Wiki» parent page, but it can be overridden.

When you restrict the permission levels of a sub-page, a Restore button will appear at the top of your Share menu. Use it to revert the permissions back to default, and inherit from the parent page.

Tip: You can create «secret pages» that only certain people or groups can see, by setting the permission level of a sub-page to No access for the people or groups you want to hide the page from.

Stop sharing

If you have full access to a page, you can disable sharing with anyone at any time.

The fastest way is to move the page from Workspace or Shared in your sidebar to the Private section. Make sure this is what you really want to do, though, because everyone else will lose access.

Click on Share at the top right of the page, and switch off access for your workspace, individuals, groups, or the public. You can also select Remove from the dropdown next to any of these.

Note: People who do not have any access to a page will not see it in their workspace. It might appear in your sidebar, but not in theirs.

See who’s sharing a page

You can tell who else has access to a page because their avatars/profile photos can be seen in the bar at the very top of the page.

An avatar appears faded out if that person is not currently looking at the page.

An avatar appears unfaded if the person is currently on the page.

Hovering over an avatar will show you the person’s name, email, and when they were last on the page.

Clicking on an active avatar will jump you to the part of the page where they’re reading or typing.

When people are collaborating on the same page at the same time, you’ll see their avatars move next to the blocks they are looking at or editing.

Click ••• at the top right of any page and look at the bottom of the menu that pops up. You’ll see who last edited the page and when.

Security settings for sharing

If you have an Enterprise Plan subscription, and you’re an admin in the workspace, you can prevent content from being shared by turning on certain security settings. Contact sales to learn more about our Enterprise plan.

Go to Settings & Members at the top of your left sidebar.

Click Settings in the sidebar of the window that pops up.

Scroll down to the Security & identity section, where you’ll these toggle switches:

You may have the Allowed Email Domains setting turned on. When enabled, this feature allows people with that email domain to join your workspace as a member automatically. You can disable this setting in the Settings tab of Settings & Members in the left sidebar.

You can enable Share to the web in the Share menu, and share the URL with them. As long as you keep the Search engine indexing setting disabled (always disabled by default), only people with that exact URL will be able to access the page. They’ll be able to view the page, even if they don’t have a Notion account. However, they won’t be able to make any edits, leave comments, or sort/filter a database.

You may have the Disable Export setting enabled in the Settings tab of Settings & Members in your left sidebar. You’ll need to be an admin in your workspace, and on desktop to change this.

Unfortunately, database permissions don’t get quite that granular yet 😓 It’s a legit use case though, and definitely something we want to support in the future. Stay tuned!

Request app permissions

Every Android app runs in a limited-access sandbox. If your app needs to use resources or information outside of its own sandbox, you can declare a permission and set up a permission request that provides this access. These steps are part of the workflow for using permissions.

If you declare any dangerous permissions, and if your app is installed on a device that runs Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher, you must request the dangerous permissions at runtime by following the steps in this guide.

If you don’t declare any dangerous permissions, or if your app is installed on a device that runs Android 5.1 (API level 22) or lower, the permissions are automatically granted, and you don’t need to complete any of the remaining steps on this page.

Basic principles

The basic principles for requesting permissions at runtime are as follows:

Workflow for requesting permissions

Before you declare and request runtime permissions in your app, evaluate whether your app needs to do so. You can fulfill many use cases in your app, such as taking photos, pausing media playback, and displaying relevant ads, without needing to declare any permissions.

If you conclude that your app needs to declare and request runtime permissions, complete these steps:

Check whether the user has already granted the runtime permission that your app requires. If so, your app can access the private user data. If not, continue to the next step.

You must check whether you have that permission every time you perform an operation that requires that permission.

Check whether your app should show a rationale to the user, explaining why your app needs the user to grant a particular runtime permission. If the system determines that your app shouldn’t show a rationale, continue to the next step directly, without showing a UI element.

If the system determines that your app should show a rationale, however, present the rationale to the user in a UI element. This rationale should clearly explain what data your app is trying to access, and what benefits the app can provide to the user if they grant the runtime permission. After the user acknowledges the rationale, continue to the next step.

Request the runtime permission that your app requires in order to access the private user data. The system displays a runtime permission prompt, such as the one shown on the permissions overview page.

Check the user’s response, whether they chose to grant or deny the runtime permission.

If the user granted the permission to your app, you can access the private user data. If the user denied the permission instead, gracefully degrade your app experience so that it provides functionality to the user, even without the information that’s protected by that permission.

Figure 1 illustrates the workflow and set of decisions associated with this process:

Determine whether your app was already granted the permission

Explain why your app needs the permission

Additionally, if your app requests a permission related to location, microphone, or camera, consider explaining why your app needs access to this information.

Request permissions

After the user views an educational UI, or the return value of shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale() indicates that you don’t need to show an educational UI this time, request the permission. Users see a system permission dialog, where they can choose whether to grant a particular permission to your app.

Traditionally, you manage a request code yourself as part of the permission request and include this request code in your permission callback logic. Another option is to use the RequestPermission contract, included in an AndroidX library, where you allow the system to manage the permission request code for you. Because using the RequestPermission contract simplifies your logic, it’s recommended that you use it when possible.

Allow the system to manage the permission request code

To allow the system to manage the request code that’s associated with a permissions request, add dependencies on the following libraries in your module’s build.gradle file:

You can then use one of the following classes:

The following steps show how to use the RequestPermission contract. The process is nearly the same for the RequestMultiplePermissions contract.

To display the system permissions dialog when necessary, call the launch() method on the instance of ActivityResultLauncher that you saved in the previous step.

Also, the text in the system permission dialog references the permission group associated with the permission that you requested. This permission grouping is designed for system ease-of-use, and your app shouldn’t rely on permissions being within or outside of a specific permission group.

Handle permission denial

If the user denies a permission request, your app should help users understand the implications of denying the permission. In particular, your app should make users aware of the features that don’t work because of the missing permission. When you do so, keep the following best practices in mind:

Guide the user’s attention. Highlight a specific part of your app’s UI where there’s limited functionality because your app doesn’t have the necessary permission. Several examples of what you could do include the following:

Be specific. Don’t display a generic message; instead, mention which features are unavailable because your app doesn’t have the necessary permission.

Don’t block the user interface. In other words, don’t display a full-screen warning message that prevents users from continuing to use your app at all.

At the same time, your app should respect the user’s decision to deny a permission. Starting in Android 11 (API level 30), if the user taps Deny for a specific permission more than once during your app’s lifetime of installation on a device, the user doesn’t see the system permissions dialog if your app requests that permission again. The user’s action implies «don’t ask again.» On previous versions, users would see the system permissions dialog each time your app requested a permission, unless the user had previously selected a «don’t ask again» checkbox or option.

In certain situations, the permission might be denied automatically, without the user taking any action. (Similarly, a permission might be granted automatically as well.) It’s important to not assume anything about automatic behavior. Each time your app needs to access functionality that requires a permission, you should check that your app is still granted that permission.

One-time permissions

Starting in Android 11 (API level 30), whenever your app requests a permission related to location, microphone, or camera, the user-facing permissions dialog contains an option called Only this time, as shown in Figure 2. If the user selects this option in the dialog, your app is granted a temporary one-time permission.

Your app can then access the related data for a period of time that depends on your app’s behavior and the user’s actions:

When the user next opens your app and a feature in your app requests access to location, microphone, or camera, the user is prompted for the permission again.

Android auto-resets permissions of unused apps

If your app targets Android 11 (API level 30) or higher and isn’t used for a few months, the system protects user data by automatically resetting the sensitive runtime permissions that the user had granted your app. Learn more in the guide about app hibernation.

Request to become the default handler if necessary

Some apps depend on access to sensitive user information related to call logs and SMS messages. If you want to request the permissions specific to call logs and SMS messages and publish your app to the Play Store, you must prompt the user to set your app as the default handler for a core system function before requesting these runtime permissions.
